(I AM) SOY.
Hello, my name is Soy.
// CURRENT
I am director of design for an agency that works with nonprofits. We are a small team, so I am very hands on - often taking the role of design lead on many of our projects. I also work closely with cross functional partners on brand strategy, manage a small team of designers and contractors, and work on developing our own branding, design systems and UX component libraries.
Through my job, I have been learning how to implement liberatory design principles to our processes and think about how design can be more inclusive (through language, imagery, typography, ADA compliance) and actively anti-racist.
// BACKGROUND
advertising/design agency – art direction, graphic design, branding, and ui design for a wide variety of sectors - health, b2b, finance, food/beverage, consumer products, small business, artists, musicians (trivia: I worked with David Bowie on his first website ever!) I’ve been lucky as a freelancer to have worked for a ton of agencies like Publicis, Saatchi, Havas, Razorfish, EVB, Comrade/CI&T and so many more amazing groups over the years. Exposure to so many different brands, aesthetics and audiences has been integral for my growth as a problem solver and visual designer.
// OTHER
My other interests include cooking, nutrition, gardening, Chinese martial arts, acrobatics, flexibility training and traveling whenever possible.
In my very long ago past life – I was a principal dancer with FatChanceBellyDance and taught dance at Heartbeat House and Panther Energy Martial Arts Studio LA. I have been a private chef for dancers and athletes and an on site cook for Oblong Industries.
Korean, rudimentary German.
